From Skate Parks to Cutting Boards

Our story starts in 1997 when three entrepreneurs set up design-and-build contractor TrueRide, a company which specialized in creating custom-made municipal skate parks. The TrueRide crew designed, built, installed, and serviced more than 450 skate parks, providing vital community spaces across the USA and abroad.

TrueRide's skate ramps were constructed out of a paper composite material, which had also been used in commercial kitchens internationally for over 75 years.

One year our trio of entrepreneurs made cutting boards as holiday gifts from the cut-off generated from the fabrication and building of the skateboard parks...and Epicurean was founded in 2003.

Sustainability

Epicurean was founded out of the desire to reuse excess material in an efficient and useful manner. Sustainability continues to be at the forefront our short and long-term business decisions and goals, and we’re proud to continuously add to our energy efficiency program.

At every stage in the production process, Epicurean minimizes, repurposes, and recycles waste whenever possible.

Other initiatives include:

Epicurean’s large solar array offsets approximately 25% of our energy usage.

Epicurean’s heat reclamation system captures warmth generated by its machines and uses it to heat its warehouse over the winter.

All of Epicurean’s off-cut material waste is burned locally as biomass.

What does it take to make a cutting board? For nearly 25 years we’ve been continuously creating, refining, and rethinking our processes, from the receipt of our material to how our cutting board can be part of your well-equipped kitchen.

Material: Our 100% USA-made material is received.

Cutting Edge CNC Shop: We have machines to cut our products, which can produce high output, custom, and prototype items.

Assembly: We’ve developed an assembly line which rapidly processes cutting boards – from engraving our logo to applying a label. Our assembly team will also add a component (such as non-slip feet) and box up the finished products.

Shipping: We ship all over North America and internationally.

Microplastics Free
Independent analysis verifies that Epicurean's paper composite material is not a source of microplastics and does not release microplastics during normal cutting or washing.

Naturally Antimicrobial
Independent testing to JIS 2801 verifies that the paper composite material is naturally antimicrobial, achieving a ≥99.9% reduction of S. aureus under laboratory conditions—without added antimicrobial agents.

NSF Certified
NSF is the organization that tests products to verify they meet public health and safety standards and guarantees products to be easily cleaned and safe for food contact.
